The Crash is a wall-hanging sculpture named after the collective term for a group of rhinos—a “crash.” At its center, three white rhinos are rendered in pyrography, hand-etched into a warm slab of maple. Their forms rise subtly from the organic grain, grounded and powerful.
The maple slab is suspended within a custom steel frame, hand-fabricated and textured to echo the rugged, armor-like quality of rhino skin. A black inner lining contrasts with the pale wood, and antique wood screws fasten the frame with a blend of strength and quiet detail.
Above the frame rest three hand-carved rhino figures: two black rhinos sculpted from rich walnut, and one white rhino shaped in maple. Embedded with earth magnets, they can be repositioned while remaining secure—serving as watchful, grounded guardians.
Mounted with a French cleat system and a mahogany wall spacer anchored with brass screws, the piece floats elegantly off the wall.
The Crash is both tribute and call to action—a reminder of the beauty we must protect and the collective effort it takes to do so.
This piece was created in support of Helping Rhinos, a nonprofit working to ensure a safe future for rhinos through conservation, community, and education. The Crash is currently available, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated directly to Helping Rhinos.
