Fishing grew from a quiet encounter with a heron along the water. I first watched the bird while kayaking, returning later with a sketchbook and eventually finding a feather along the same creek. The print brings together those small pieces of the experience — a memory, a sketch, and a found object — preserving the details that made the encounter worth holding onto. The heron is hand block printed while the fish are formed through embossing alone. The raised fish bring a physical sense of movement to the water, catching the light as the print is viewed from different angles. Each print is made by hand, resulting in subtle variations that make every piece unique.
The heron was only there for a moment, but the encounter became something I could return to. A sketch, a feather, and a memory became a way of keeping that small experience from disappearing completely.
Fishing is part of the Meadowland collection, a series about small moments in nature, quiet encounters, and the traces they leave behind. Each piece begins with an observation and becomes a physical object through printmaking and embossing, preserving not simply what was seen, but what made the moment worth remembering. Prints are editioned and include a certificate of authenticity.
